If you are in Houston today or through June 27, please venture to a show called Sisyphus Office. Curated by exhibiting artist/upcoming Talking Art speaker Jonn Herschend the show will include work by San Jose ICA Assistant Curator Susan O’Malley, among other Bay Area artists. (Just an itsy-bit of shameless self-promotion as this is Susan O’Malley, blogging this post).
Turns out Houston has no zoning laws, so the show sprawls throughout town, with artwork displayed in a copy shop, radio station and more. What is this show about, you may ask? Here’s what Herschend has to say about it: It’s about “punching the clock, and then punching it again…but harder the second time… It’s also about transcending the mundane through the beauty and absurdity of distraction and repetition, like watching paper being fed into a printer, or waiting for a file to upload. It’s the comedy in the tragedy of the day to day… and then waking up again to do the same thing all over again the next morning.”
